Mitt Romney’s Binder Full of Women

During last night’s presidential debate, Mitt Romney said that in an effort to mix up the all-male Massachusetts State Cabinet, he was given “binders full of women” who could potentially help run the company. Fortunately, his fantastic team delivered some very informative and helpful binders.

Romney tried to sound like he was all for equal rights by saying he purposefully had his staff search for women to appoint to his staff when he was elected in Mass., but he said he had them bring him “binders full of women” to choose from. He meant binders full of their resumes and applications. And then he inevitably said some other insensitive things about women in the workplace. -cc

I watched the debate and then I rewatched it today and I still don’t get how it was a slam against women… I don’t know if I’m missing something or misunderstanding but I honestly don’t get it… This is what happens when I try to understand politics! - ab

It was really poor word choice on his part, and it also implied that he hired a bunch of people simply because they were female. It was basically an easy phrase for his critics to pick up on ad use to mock him. However, in the rest of his answer about women’s rights in the workplace, I thought he said some very naive and insulting things, and I think a lot of other people felt the same way, so it makes that particular slip that much worse. -cc

what were the other comments that were naive and insulting? I rewatched it to try and understand and I am not getting it… - ab
